Legendary: The Box Preview
Minotaur meets magnum in our hands-on preview of this first-person shooter of mythical proportions.

Boss battles are in the game and naturally feature some of the biggest and baddest myths around. Waiting at the end of the laboratory sequence, for instance, is an angry Minotaur. Shooting frantically doesn't do much to the thick-skinned bully, especially since he furiously charges at you when shot at. Damaging the big guy means dodging his charges and quickly jolting behind to hit his exposed rear. This only serves to worsen his mood, though, as he'll start busting through walls to get at you. You get the distinct feeling that nowhere is safe during the battle, which lends an enormous amount of intensity to it.

Gathering from the difficulty of the Minotaur battle and firefights throughout the laboratory level, Legendary: The Box could end up being considerably challenging. It took a few tries to bring down the miffed beast, not withstanding cheers from the developer. The level of difficulty is likely to undergo tuning in advance of the game's release across next-gen consoles and the PC; of course, expect a few options for setting the difficulty to suit your style. Also in need of some tuning are the visuals. The game runs at a remarkably well in its current state, although there are some spots in need of polish. Minor, really, given that the game promises to deliver the goods with its intense gameplay. We're looking forward to plowing through all manner of mythical beasts this coming spring.
