Unfortunately, you will never have much gold, and once reaching the higher echelon of levels, your heroes become rather snobbish. Attempting to get your knights in shining armor off their butts is one of the most frustrating things you will ever do. The kingdom might be going to hell, but they don't care because you can't throw down 6000 gold. They will do nothing if there's no cash incentive. I once had to bribe my warrior to get out of the inn when it was on fire.
While continuously supplying your troops with fresh cash is infuriating, starting each chapter at Level 1 may take the cake. I enjoy a challenge. I do not enjoy watching Level 20 vampires slaughter each hero within two minutes of the chapter's start. Majesty 2 attempts to offset this tiny discrepancy by allowing you to make one hero a lord at the end of each chapter in order to recruit him later. This higher level hero, however, will be very expensive. If you can pony up the cash, the next step is bribing him to move. That will be another $3000, thank you.
The makers of Majesty 2 call your heroes “somewhat obnoxious subordinates.” That is an understatement. Their stubbornness makes this terribly challenging RTS, at times, nearly impossible. But try, try again and you will feel like you are God once you beat an Expert level. If try, trying again is not for you, be aware that you cannot change the difficulty. Then again, the immersive fantasy environment, easy controls and some funny narrative make each inevitable defeat hurt a little less.
