Here's a quick Q&A to determine if you should take a visit to the creepy, spooky and altogether ookie Zombie Island of Dr. Ned the new DLC for Gearbox's manic RPS Borderlands:
Question 1. Did you like Borderlands?
If the answer is yes, well then get your Sunday dress Mary and polish up that shotgun, there's zombies awaitin'! Gearbox's first DLC pack is a concentrated version of the main game's strong points, offering plenty of humor, frantic shooting and varied new enemies. In short, it's everything that was great about the main game, only with 100% more zombies.
Once you pop in your main game, and as long as you're over level 10 you'll be alerted about trouble in Jakob's Cove, a location easily transported to from any of the game's various New U stations. Turns out Dr. Ned, who totally is not Dr. Zed has been tinkering with the undead and well, it kind of got away from him a bit causing Jakob's Cove and the surrounding areas to be overrun with the shambling hordes. Given that you're the only hired gun in the area, it's up to you to figure out what's going on. Along the way you'll come across doomed parties of fellow zombie hunters, giant pumpkin headed monsters, a zombified version of TK and a giant wereskag in a yellow, macrame hat.
The best part of the expansion pack is the varied, unending stream of zombies that assault you and your party from all angles. There are running psycho zombies, leaping midget zombies, lurching zombies with beer helmets, zombie torsos pulling themselves by their arms, defilers that spit a camera clogging spray of filth upon you, tank throwing suicidal zombies that explode next to you and finally the tankensteins, giant undead behemoths with propane tanks on their backs that take a surpreme amount of ammo and effort to take down.
This is to say nothing of the Crimson Lance zombies that combine the heady stench of undeath with the pain dealing efficiency of Scorpion turrets. Taken one at a time, the enemies in the game don't provide much of a challengel, however you'll rarely encounter just one, instead being treated to wave after wave of fiends. In a new twist enemies will frequently spawn behind you from areas you recently cleared out and thought were safe. The constant stream of enemies from all directions, above and below as well as all points on the compass keeps you continually on your toes.
