How to make a great game even greater: add zombies.

Unfortunately, even with all of these enemies, higher level characters may find things a bit too easy. I tackled the expansion with a level 50 Siren teamed up with a level 50 Soldier, both from a second playthrough and most quests were at the high 30 to low 40 level, translating to a rating of Trivial. The game certainly moved more quickly as a result of our overpowered team however there still were plenty of tough spots and one or two instances where a revival was needed. I may or may not have been turned into a red smear on the floor by the game's main boss but reports are unclear.

Even with the lowered challenge the sheer numbers kept things interesting especially when going for the various brain quests, quests given to you by zombie TK, a simple man who wants what all good zombies want: brains. To get the brains you have to kill zombies with critical hits as doing so causes their brain to shoot out of the top of their head like a grisly bottle rocket. Bringing all the brains to TK treats you to a lovely scene where he'll eat the brain and then vomit up a piece of loot. Yes, it is just as disgusting as it sounds. The same sick sense of humor pervades the entire DLC providing many laugh out loud moments, particularly in the various audio logs you come across while fulfulling various quests. Whatever restraint was shown in the main game went right out the window for the DLC and the results are absolutely hilarious.

You'll spend about four or five hours traversing the various creepy enrivonmens of Jakob's Cove and while the same backtracking issues from the main game plague the expansion, the fact that the environments are so expertly done and the fact that you'll have zombies all up in your grill means that before you know it you're across the map and on your way to hunting down a pack of wereskags.

In releasing this DLC, Gearbox and 2K have done what seems to be so difficult for other studios: drop a well designed, value laden expansion pack in a timely manner. With a tighter, more condensed storyline, tons of great humor, lots of varied enemies and fresh, new environments to play in once you finish your first run to the Vault, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is a simply awesome expansion pack and a great way to change up your Borderlands experience.
