Lost Planet, Wii on Top
Wii and Capcom's Lost Planet top January retail charts.

Nintendo's Wii continued its dominance as the top selling console for the month of January according to retail data from research firm NPD. Nintendo also claimed four of the top spots in the top ten software list for January.

North American consumers bought around 436,000 Nintendo Wii's in January, while the PS2 sold 299,000 units, the Xbox 360 sold 294,000 units and the PS3 sold 244,000 of its high end and low end PS3 systems. Total sales of console hardware and software hit $1.3 billion in January, with game sales climbing 50 percent to $549 million.

On the game front, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for the Xbox 360 from Capcom was the top seller in January. Other big sellers in January included Gears of War, Guitar Hero 2, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and WarioWare: Smooth Moves:
