It's Resident Evil overload.

Resident Evil fans already had a lot to look forward to, including The Mercenaries 3D and Revelations for Nintendo 3DS, and the newly announced remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica for Xbox 360 and PS3. Add another to the list - Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

Operation Raccoon City is a collaboration between Capcom and Slant 6 Games in Vancouver and is being developed for Xbox 360 and PS3. According to the press release:

"It is September 1998 and the action centers once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella’s actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City."

Operation Raccoon City will also "deliver" multiple competetive modes. Notice the clever use of 'deliver' and not 'include.' I'll bet money that we will have to pay to unlock those modes, ala Resident Evil 5.

Especially interesting is that the press release goes on to say that Leon Kennedy is one of the player's targets for elimination. With Resident Evil 5, Capcom proved that it can make a cooperative version of Resident Evil, so here's hoping that this future outing doesn't turn into a glossier version of Outbreak.
