Square Enix has released Final Fantasy XIII-2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to retailers nationwide and has announced its plans for downloadable content for the game. FF XIII-2 reveals more events from the FF XIII, with a story written in a way that can still be enjoyed without playing the previous title. The game promises larger and more interactive environments, time travel that alters the areas in the game you visit based on the timeline you have entered, an enhanced battle system, and more than 150 different monsters inhabiting the game world that can be recruited into the player’s party.

Look for the game in stores beginning today.

Square Enix also announced that downloadable content is on the way very soon. The planned content includes Coliseum Battles pitting the player against adversaries from previous FF titles that, when defeated, can be recruited into the player’s party. The Coliseum battle “Lightning and Master Sergeant Amodar” will be distributed on February 7. In addition, there will be episodes which enhance the game with storyline branches for key characters.

Full details on each piece of content will be revealed at a later date.
