Dark Sector Preview
A progress report on Digital Extremes' promising third-person action game for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Date: Tuesday, March 20, 2007
Author: Tracy Erickson

Running on a proprietary engine built in-house at Digital Extremes, Dark Sector looks definitively next-generation. In our short time with the game, we witnessed highly detailed texture work, gorgeous dynamic lighting, and awesome particle effects for fire and electricity. As Hayden walked through indoor and outdoor environments, we noticed shifts in lighting on his body—a reflection of the dynamic lighting used in the game. With a release set for autumn, there’s plenty of optimization in line for the game meaning even better visual and gameplay. Dark Sector can only get better with time, as it already appears to embody everything we’ve been promised in this new generation. While we’d like to get some time with the multiplayer component before rendering a judgment, it seems clear that Dark Sector will be worth watching.
