Of course multiplayer takes all new form here, drawing inspiration from Modern Warfare and blending it with elements from the series' earliest installments. Cooperative play through the campaign will mark a first for the franchise, supporting two players on one console and up to four online. Competitive play largely mirrors what was done in Modern Warfare, albeit with the inclusion of vehicles and alterations to address the different weapons and setting.

We're eager to test out the multiplayer, although Activision is holding off until closer to the game's release in early 2009. What we've seen of the new Pacific campaign definitely looks promising and the multiplayer claims are bold, yet there's concern over how the European portion of the game will play out. Treyarch has some big shoes to fill in finishing World at War, so here's to hoping they take the necessary steps to turn this promising first look into a fantastic first-person shooter.
