Damnation Multiplayer Preview
We go hands-on multiplayer in Codemasters' upcoming shooter.
Date: Thursday, November 06, 2008
Author: Cole Jones

Thanks to the moderately awkward shooting setup, many of the showdowns I witnessed devolved into brainless punch-fests. Since punching was as simple as tapping one button, nothing compared to the power of a fist in close quarters. I calculated that it only took about four hits to fell a foe, while it would take closer to five seconds of gunfire to do the same. All of this made the melee feel just felt a little unbalanced, especially when coupled with the awkward control scheme that left many of us spinning and punching in circles.

Even though things felt a little broken, a few different control schemes and a bit of balancing could easily fix up the multiplayer in no time. It’s also important to note that I had no hands-on time with the single player campaign (which is by far the bread and butter of the game), so those curious about the game should certainly read up on our prior preview with the first few hours of the game. Also, check out the trailer below for some real time action shots.
