Resistance: Fall of Man Review
14 out of 15
Buying this shooter from Insomniac is an easier decision than buying the system you need to play it on..

Usually, when I hear of people replaying finished games, I wonder why. I finished it once, I’m done with it. Resistance may make me rethink that habit though, as it was one of those games where you play and play and the next thing you know, eight hours have passed. That’s rare these days, at least for me. Maybe it was the high production values, or the speed of gameplay, or the tank and jeep sequences which broke up the on foot action at the perfect time. Whatever it was, the boys and girls at Insomniac hit the mark.

That doesn’t mean the game’s perfect, as the ending is a bit of an anti-climax while definitely laying the groundwork for a sequel of some sort, and it isn’t exactly innovative in gameplay, but these points are minor compared to the overall product on display here, and from graphics and sound to story and gameplay, Resistance scores on all fronts and gives the PS3 its first killer app. Can it do for the console what Halo did for the Xbox? Only time will tell, but for someone whose sole hopes for the PS3 rode on the performance of this one game, I’m impressed.
