Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Review
9 out of 15
Almost the ideal Spidey game -- but the grinding and over abundance low level foes drag it down into mediocrity.

Most of the game involves either rescuing people, escorting something, or beating people up, and once you’re done with that they just up the numbers required and have you go to town again. The boss fights are a lot of fun when they show up (especially the aerial battles), but everything in between just turns the game into a mindless, button-mashing chore, because one or two moves are going to kill people quicker, and all you’re care about is killing the lowbies quicker to get to the good stuff: boss fights and cutscenes.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is a near-perfect Spidey game. The core Spider-Man elements people care about are all present, and arguably better than any game to date. Sadly, the developers forgot to find a way to eliminate the grinding feel of the basic gameplay. The result is a game hard line Spider-Man fans will want to beat in order to experience the story, while casual fans will likely get bored halfway through.
