Resident Evil 5 Versus Review
10 out of 15
The master of stop-n-shoot multiplayer

The only major problem with Versus is trying to get into the game to begin with. The match-making function lists games whether they are open or not, and each failed attempt boots you back to the start menu (twelve is my record so far). You can host your own game, but it’s a crap-shoot. You might wait five seconds or five minutes for joiners. What confuses me most about this shining example of user-unfriendliness is how I can play round after round of Survivors with the same group, but I get sent back to the start menu after every game of Slayers.

Versus isn’t staking a claim in the territories of Call of Duty or Gears of War, but that is part of the appeal. With Majini and humans coexisting on the same battlefield and everyone fighting for points over straight kills, I can’t liken the experience to anything else. One thing is for sure though: If you’re a fan of Mercenaries, and can tolerate archaic matchmaking, Versus is worth every cent.
