Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

Another missed opportunity with Harry and company
Date: Friday, July 17, 2009

That’s how I felt after playing the game: that I didn’t really do anything. I’m a big fan of the books – a bit less so of the films, and the games still fail to remotely live up to either.

My daughter (who is eight) is a huge Potter fan. So she eagerly sat down to watch me play the videogame. It’s a one-player game unless you duel so she couldn’t join in co-op (another missed opportunity). After an hour or so even she started to notice that I was doing the same thing – over and over again. Fly through some hoops, blast some incompetent in a duel, make a potion, and get lost wandering around Hogwarts until summoning Nearly Headless Nick as a guide to your next destination. After two hours of this she asked if she could go back and play The Sims 3 in my office.

I asked if I could come and watch.
