Do you hear that weird thumping sound? Nevermind, it's just my heartbeat. Did it just stop!? "Terror returns this Fall with Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, the sequel to the highly popular survival horror title, Fatal Frame. This time the terrifying journey takes the player to a whole new creepy setting, an abandoned village, where they play the role of Mio Amakura, a young girl who is gifted with a strong sixth sense. The story follows the horrifying journey of Mio and her twin sister, Mayu, as this lost village and a strange, symbolic crimson butterfly create the spooky setting for yet another frightening tale in Fatal Frame 2."

Taking cues from classic Japanese horror films, the sequel to the psycho thriller Fatal Frame comes to a PS2 near you this fall. For attendees of E3 2003, Tecmo unveiled (among other bouncy things) a spine-tingling trailer for this upcoming shocker. After being compelled to chase a mysterious red butterfly (hence the name Crimson Butterfly), twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura stumble upon a deserted village shrouded in mystery and terror. Fans of survival horror and the first Fatal Frame will revel in this supernatural dive into terror. Boasting more powerful enemies increasingly more disturbing atmospheres, and an all new terrifying story than it's predecessor; Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly promises to be a more horrifying than the first.

Shown through frightening real time visuals, players will assume the role of Mio as she tries to escape the things that go bump in the night. The one-weapon combat system makes a return in this sequel as you use the antique camera obscura to combat ghostly phantoms and spirits. Though it was the same as the first, a variety of new features have been updated to the camera which will allow you to battle the forces of evil and save your sister Mayu. Tecmo has been pretty tight lipped on further details, but judging from the gruesome scenes shown during the trailer, the survival horror game genre is in for a thrilling addition this fall.
