While details on Project H.A.M.M.E.R. are still pretty light, Nintendo's third-person robot bashing and smashing action adventure looks very promising. Developed by Nintendo specifically for the next-generation Wii console, Project H.A.M.M.E.R. puts players in the boots of a cyborg (half-man, half-robot) who is charged with saving the world John Henry style. This cyborg codenamed
Project H.A.M.M.E.R. this melding of flesh and metal is gifted with a huge hammer capable of smashing things to tiny little pieces - and that's just what players will do. Players will battle armies of marauding robots who are rampaging the United States armed with only a giant hammer.
Players use the nunchuk controller to maneuver through a variety of environments and use the remote to swing their hammer and strike down hundreds of robots. Using the freehand concept of gameplay, Nintendo has created a game that showcases the unique strengths of the controller. By swinging the remote controller side to side, players make the in-game hammer send enemies flying. Lifting the remote into the air and bringing it down quickly will smash robots to smithereens. Using the A button on the remote will cause a quick series of hammer strikes.
Project H.A.M.M.E.R. is yet another game from Nintendo that spotlights the unique controls of the remote nunchuk combination and freehand gameplay that they talked so much about at E3. Visually the game looks great with lots of interesting styles and backdrops that fit in nicely with the theme of the game. Here's to hoping that Nintendo can deliver a compelling game with some depth when this game launches in late 2006 0r early 2007. We'll keep you posted.
