Bethesda's Star Trek E3 Invasion
At E3 Bethesda reveals the future of the Star Trek license on the PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and PSP.
Date: Friday, May 19, 2006
Author: Will 'Jayson' Hill

In the campaign mode of TA, war has broken out between the Federation and the Klingons and it is a fight for supremacy of the galaxy. The player may choose to play as either the Federation or the Klingon side. Each side has its own unique branching campaign. In any situation the player will be offered many options and will be advised by his bridge crew before he makes his decision. For example, while dealing with one race diplomacy may be the best option and with others a fully charged phaser bank and armed photon torpedoes are the best negotiation tools. Your decisions affect how the campaign branches.

In addition to the single-player campaign, there is also a wireless multiplayer mode so your can choose a ship and battle friends head-to-head. In the multiplayer mode the player is able to choose from ships of the Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Gorn and Orion fleets. Each will have specific strengths and weaknesses that will require mastering certain skills and tactics to assure success in battle.

The PSP and DS versions do differ a little. The PSP version naturally looks better, but the DS fully utilizes the touch screen and allows the game to be played solely with that interface if the gamer so desires. Otherwise the two versions contain the same mission content.

With Star Trek: Legacy for PC and Xbox 360, and Star Trek: Tactical Assault for PSP and DS, it looks like the Trek really is back. And after what Bethesda was showing at E3 2006, it looks like it is back with a vengeance – a dish any Klingon will tell you, is best served cold. - Will Jayson Hill.
