E3 2008: Project Origin Preview
Project Origin looks to raise the bar while filling the shoes of its fright filled predecessor.
Date: Tuesday, July 15, 2008
Author: Tracy Erickson

One such level features an elementary school where Armacham and Replica soldiers are going at each other in a fierce fire fight. Upon entering the scene, you have the choice of engaging in the fight yourself or sticking to the shadows and letting your enemies kill themselves. Mind you, foes are much smarter this time around, so staying stealthy will be much trickier. Get seen and you'll have both sides gunning for your head. Project Origin is definitely bloodier than the first game, both visually and in terms of the action. You're constantly battling enemies and solid hits yield a satisfying amount of thick blood. To be certain, the game takes it's projected M-rating seriously.

Another compelling set piece has you taking shelter in a movie theater complex where you're able to hear the sounds of a film being played. Walking into the theater you can see the image of a bombed out car and trash cans on the screen; however, the back wall of the theater has been blown out and instead of the screen, it's the back alley you're looking at. Of course, as soon as you come to this realization Replica soldiers start streaming in and the fight is on. One of the most exciting sequences even has you suiting up in a Replica Elite Powered Armor. The hulking mechanical suit offers a ridiculous amount of firepower that can blow up cars and take out entire walls.

We know Project Origin will come packed with some sort of multiplayer, but those details are remaining a secret in the lead up to the game's fall release. Considering how action-packed the single player campaign looks, there's no doubt that the online frag fest should be just as satisfying. Along with Xbox 360, expect the game to hit PlayStation 3 and PC before year's end.
