E3 2008: Resistance 2 Preview
Trying not to get excited after going hands-on with Insomniac's intense shooter sequel is simply futile.

From our hands-on with the campaign, we have no doubt it'll be as engaging and exhilarating as the original; yet, what's the deal with multiplayer? Resistance 2 ups the ante by nearly doubling the maximum number of players per online match. Now up to 60 players can join squad-based multiplayer rounds that provide small groups of players with objectives to complete in the midst of the larger battle.

The hope is that organizing players into squads will cut back on the frenzy of an all-out blood bath that was characteristic of the first game's multiplayer. Cooperative play comes to this sequel as well, with plans for a full second campaign that allows you and up to three buddies to face the Chimera in the American heartland.

As if the new single player campaign, added cooperative mode, and expanded multiplayer elements weren't enough, Resistance 2 promises to bolster your firepower with creative new weapons. Don't worry, though, as classics from the first game are still here including the Bullseye. While Insomniac wants to keep the new firearms a surprise, we did catch a glimpse of the new spider grenade. Chucking one of these splashes black goo that burns like acid as its tendrils climb up walls and spread across the ground. We absolutely can't wait to try it out at home, but unfortunately we're going to have to wait given the game's November release.
