E3 2008: Mad World Preview
What's black, white, and red all over? SEGA's Wii-exclusive action game.
Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Author: Tracy Erickson

As Jack managed to dispatch every contestant in sight, commentators issued quips intended to instill humor to the game. In all honesty, the commentary, while funny in spots, sounded downright awful—it's cheesy and completely annoying. Either drop it from the final release entirely or rework the dialogue so it isn't nearly as corny. Fortunately, the one thing the game does nail in terms of presentation is the graphics. Black and white graphics offer a unique style, particularly with the red splashes of blood that appear whenever a contestant leaves the game. Accompanying particularly brutal kills are comic book-style sound effects that flash across the screen as text.

Regardless of how it ends up playing, Mad World will definitely distinguish itself as among the most stylish games for Wii. Whether the game can move beyond that to deliver a deep and satisfying action experience remains to be seen. The focus on pure violence leaves us worried that the game is essentially a clone of Manhunt with flashier graphics and art direction. Expect more in the lead up to the game's early 2009 release.
