EA Phenomic tempers a new take on real-time strategy. Think Magic: The Gathering with real-time battles and you get the idea.

Mixing cards with real-time strategy gives Battleforge an innovative twist, yet we're a touch wary of the set up. Having to purchase booster packs seems questionable, not because it demands extra money (well, that sucks but it's understandable given that all card-based games have a paid booster pack structure) but rather how EA Phenomic plans on balancing those players with extra cards versus those who decide not to buy boosters. Will it end up being a waste of money to pick up booster packs, as is the case with PlayStation 3 card-dueling game Eye of Judgment? We'll have a definitive answer when Electronic Arts opens Battleforge for business exclusively on PC in January of 2009.
