While Midnight Club: Los Angeles borrows much from other racers, but it does so with style. The aforementioned GPS map represents a push to heighten the level of visual detail and it shows. Crisp billboards and wet streets give the city a realistic look, but it's the people milling about and the differences among neighborhoods that make it feel like Los Angeles. The LA River looks just as disgusting as it does in person, while Beverly Hills appears equally as manufactured in the game as it does when you're there. It's uncanny, really. Even the camera angles have been set with style, such as the tilted pan out whenever you drive in reverse. It's hard to say whether multiplayer will be worthwhile because of the lack of information, but it's safe to bet that whatever is there on day one will be fun because the core racing is a blast.
There's no question that skydiving from orbit without a parachute isn't something that just anybody can do. But what if you wanted try it while wearing a big sexy piece of powered armor? Section 8's multiplayer beta gave me the chance to repeatedly engage in this adrenaline-pumping experience. and shoot a lot of internet-people full of holes at the same time. Read on to find out what will set this game apart from other knock-offs in this genre.
