Old school gamers who still start humming the Peter Gunn theme when they hear the words "Spy Hunter", and anyone else for that matter, are in for another update of the classic '80s arcade game. Published by Midway and developed by Angel Studios, SpyHunter 2 puts the player in command of the super sophisticated G-8155 Interceptor spy car loaded to the gills with all the gadgets any self-respecting secret agent needs.

This time around Spy Hunter 2 adds three new vehicles for the sleek spy car to transform into: a 4x4 vehicle, off-road motorcycle and a snowmobile that James Bond would envy. These are in addition to the previous game's boat and street motorcycle transformations.

The main character, Alec Sects, is back as well as a new femme fatale lady agent. Sects must fight his way through 16 levels and eight new bosses to stop a worldwide terrorist organization.

A variety of weapons will be available for the Interceptor. Players get to choose their weapon load between missions and map the buttons used to activate the various death dealers. (Always nice to see individual-configurable controls.)

While coming for all consoles this fall, only the PS2 version was on the floor at E3. Though only recently announced, the game looks in a fairly advanced stage. Control was good and graphics and sound are coming along well.

If progress continues as it has, SpyHunter 2 will be a worthy heir to the arcade hit's lineage.
