Perhaps you've heard of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children in passing and thought it was a follow-up PS2 title to the ultra ultra popular PlayStation (and PC) hit starring Cloud Strife. Sadly it's not, but what Advent Children is is a feature length CG animated continuation of that popular storyline - so popular in fact that it sold over 9 million units worldwide. Not much is known about the DVD release, save that it takes place two years after the climactic events of Final Fantasy VII. While the city of Midgar remains in ruins, a symbol of what had to happen there and a sign of peace for the people of the world, old enemies refuse to remain inactive. Cloud, who vanished into obscurity after the events of Final Fantasy VII, is forced to resurface and take on old and new enemies alike, all while unraveling the mystery of a new illness spreading across the globe like a wildfire.

The film is being produced by Yoshinori Kitase, whose past projects include FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY VIII, FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2. Tetsuya Nomura wears the moniker of Director/Main Character Designer - his previous work includes FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY VIII, FINAL FANTASY X, FINAL FANTASY X-2, KINGDOM HEARTS and KINGDOM HEARTS- FINAL MIX.

He'll be aided by Co-Director Takeshi Nozue (FINAL FANTASY IX, FINAL FANTASY X, KINGDOM HEARTS) Art Director Yusuke Naora (FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY VIII, FINAL FANTASY X, UNLIMITED SAGA), Scenario guru Kazushige Nojima (FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY VIII FINAL FANTASY X, FINAL FANTASY X-2) and Music Composer Nobuo Uematsu - who has worked on the entire Final Fantasy series. Freelance artist Takayuki Takeya, who is currently overseeing “FINAL FANTASY CREATURES” action figure line is also handling the Mechanic/Creature Design for Advent Children.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children does not yet have an official release date. We'll have more on this promising project as it develops, but in the meantime check out these brand new screenshots:
