The Very Best of 2011
The GameShark staff discusses their personal bests of 2011.

We have a fairly eclectic group of writers here at GameShark and this rings true when looking at our "best of" lists for 2011. From the genre standards to some games you may have never even heard of -- there's something here for everyone.

Bill's picks:

Dark Souls is one of the best games of the past 10 years. Deep, challenging, rewarding, brutal, and delightfully grim in its approach to the fantasy genre. The combat in Dark Souls remains the best in its class -- making the stodgy fighting in games like Skyrim look shockingly dated. This is master class RPG game design and you should not let the word of mouth about its difficulty frighten you away from it. Games don't get a lot better than this.

Arkham City is that rare follow up that not only rivals the original but bests it at nearly every turn. The free flowing combat system combined with an open world that is peppered with things to do and discover-- all wrapped up in the world of the Dark Knight made for one of the best games of the year and clearly the best superhero game of all time.
