Xperia PLAY Invades Verizon Next Week
Android's next best hope?
Date: Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Author: Brian Rowe

The Xperia PLAY from Sony Ericsson and available through Verizon Wireless can be pre-ordered online beginning May 19, and will sold in stores May 26. The price with a new two-year agreement is $199.99. The official press release does not mention the cost for existing plans or upgrades.

The Xperia PLAY operates with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and will have seven games pre-installed: Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris.

Xperia PLAY owners will gain access to the PlayStation Suite later this year. Until then, they will have to make do with the pre-installed titles and the selection of games available on the Android market, which is downright attrocious. Hopefully, the support of Sony can breathe new life into the non-Apple smartphone market.
