The control takes some time to get used to. You never know what buttons you'll need until you enter the game. When compared to the genre champion, you knew you didn't have to hit a whole lot of buttons. Sure, in the dancing game it's pretty easy to figure out, but when you feel like you only have seconds to decide whether or not you’ll succeed and you’re thinking "does X throw or is it square" but in that split second you'll have lost.

There is a multiplayer aspect to the game, but it's not that great. You can play a mini game such as 1M dash, where all four players share one PSP and have to his their button at the right time to win. Player 1 has X, Player 2 has square, and so forth. When the judge says go, you press your button. First one wins. Exciting, isn't it? You can play against one other PSP view an ad-hoc connection, but again, there’s not much to talk about here.

Overall Ape Escape Academy is a game that is very disappointing. Hopes were high going into it, but instead we have a game that is absolutely, positively not worth $40 or even a rental for that matter.
