After many hair-pulling hours spent trying to work my way through Silent Storm: Sentinels, I found myself infuriated, annoyed, and only somewhat satisfied at seeing the usually hilarious ragdoll animations in action as I winged over a high-explosive heavy grenade at an enemy soldier and watched his lifeless corpse bounce over the landscape. Even with the gameplay changes and improvements and the still-impressive graphics engine, the incredibly difficult opening parts to S3 will probably end up turning most people off from the game (especially with that utterly ridiculous bomb-disarming mission), and the seemingly pointless implementation of weapon durability does not help matters either. Maybe this expansion was just meant to be aimed at the hardcore audience that had mastered the original, but personally, I just see it as a total and complete irritation. Unless you’re a sucker for abuse, you’ll probably end up wanting to stay away. With enough determination, this can be an entertaining game to get through if you dig deep enough to find the fun parts, but the question lies: Is the trip worth the effort? In this case, methinks not. Playing games should be fun, not a chore.
