NASCAR 06 Review
12 out of 12
Finally a racing game that’s fun for all levels of experience.

Control is fine, although using a game pad is simply not the best way to enjoy a racing game. You need a steering wheel to really enjoy NASCAR 06 and the problem with this game is that not many racing wheels have a right thumbstick control. This means that in order to use the team control, you’ll have to use the communicator, which some wheels don’t support either. Just be careful in choosing a wheel and make sure it has either Xbox Live support or a right thumb stick control. Using the game pad is not horrible; it can be difficult to steer using a thumbstick. Vibration works well and can indicate if you have a bad tire or if your car is pulling in one direction.

Audio is well done in game – your team talks to you through your Communicator and the usual engine sounds, squeals and so forth are all there. The soundtrack can get boring pretty quickly; luckily custom soundtracks are allowed.

Online play is limited to 4 human players and is playable if you’re willing to suffer the magic car shuffle syndrome. This is where cars magically appear and reappear throughout the track. I have not magically crashed into any cars yet, but the ‘syncing’ is noticeable and detracts from the fun.

There is so much to do in the single player mode, I think you’ll spend most of your time in the single player modes, especially since online is so limited. There is plenty here to keep you busy and this is the first sports game I’ve played in a while to give me that "just one more game" feeling so I can get either more team loyalty points, or boost my reputation, or pick up some chase plates (ie Madden Cards). Unlike many racing games, it doesn’t feel repetitive. It feels as though you’re always doing something new. The game is fun, quite addictive and highly recommended.
