Even the Xbox Live achievement board is unfulfilling. Unlike Madden’s challenging and exciting thresholds, you are left with such thrilling events as “Play in every online mode at least once” and “Make 50 wagers.” Why not add “turn on Xbox 360 console with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 in the CD tray” as an achievement while you’re at it?
Online play itself however isn’t bad; it’s easy to find a foursome. In order to enter tournaments however, you’ll need to pony up the entry fee. If you have no money, you’ll need to earn it in career mode. It’s an interesting idea – at least you don’t have to purchase Microsoft Points in order to play! Everything is unlocked while online, so I recommend if you really want to check out everything before hitting your career mode, go online immediately.
The in game audio isn’t bad. Gary McCord is the announcer and if you’ve heard him on TV before or read Golf For Dummies books, you’ll recognize him instantly. The commentary is often spot on and adds a nice bit of humor.
Once you unlock events, all of the usual golf events are here and fun. It’s just getting to that point that is so frustrating. As always, visiting the pro shop and purchasing better equipment helps your game.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 for the Xbox 360 is a major disappointment. It’s another game where you can see the potential for the console but instead you’re stuck with a game that was rushed out to stores. There is no way I can recommend this game for anyone, even if it is the only console you have. It is simply not that much fun and $60 is a steep price to pay to be frustrated.
