This game is not hugely about graphics, but the characters that you do play look great. Also the camera angles while playing change quite frequently, which helps keep the game energized. There is also quite a bit of art in the background of the guitar, where the cords come up for you to pluck at with the frets. It stays serious in it’s own cartoony way. The backgrounds will change depending on the venues, and the later ones even feature flames in an arena.
While it is fun to play by yourself, but if you are lucky enough to pick up a second controller, it is extremely recommended. Not only will you then be able to rock out by yourself but also a friendly team up on the same song. It is one of the best features about the game, so if you can find the two controller bundle, buy it immediately, and you will be thanking yourself for it.
The controllers are quite well made as well. It is fairly easy to hit the buttons when you need to. I may recommend smaller buttons and pull them together slightly, as younger kids may have trouble hitting them constantly. The game does appear to be geared towards a younger crowd, as all the swear words have been removed. Most of the songs are done quite well too, but some come off being a little too polished, not allowing you to feel the full soul of the song.
Something that would have really made the game soar would be a "Create your own Rocker" mode. There is after all a store where you are purchasing many different guitars, so I figured this would have been a no brainer. Not only would kids enjoy this, but also us adults. It might have also been nice to choose custom cords for each song.
I cannot stress how much fun the game is. It is a unique feel on gameplay, and even if you hate the songs that are being played, you will enjoy the game. It is extremely fun to play, and you do not feel like you are wasting time. If you were thinking about getting into playing a guitar, this would be an awesome game to start off with. Kids and adults will enjoy this game together, so it is extremely family orientated. All and all, Captain Gordon gives this game… an A-.
