Sadly, the shortcomings of the multiplayer mode followed the game to the Xbox 360. Using a single 360 and TV, four players can play in split-screen mode. But once you hook more than one 360 console together, either via Live or Link, the game runs home to its PC momma source code and only allows one player per console. If you’ve wanted something between the realism of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and the over-the-top nature of Perfect Dark Zero to satisfy your jones for a LAN party when you can’t really set up 16 consoles and TVs, this isn’t it.
From a presentation point of view the game is still beautiful, though it does not all have that next generation look. Sound continues to be good, but it is not any real leap over the original Xbox game.
Controls are tight and work well for the game, except perhaps for the driving, as I’ve already mentioned.
One aspect of the game that is also marginally improved is the map editor. In my original review of FCI on the Xbox I gave this feature a bit of short shrift. It was not until I spent a lot of quality time with the map editor that I realized just how powerful and fun this feature really was. The player has the option to make maps for all types of multiplayer games in tropical, forest, jungle and swamp terrains with ancient ruin, military, research facility and refinery building sets. The tools are easy to use with very little practice yet powerful enough for the creative player to make the map of his dreams. Once completed, maps can be shared over Live or just played on your own system.
One thing I was very disappointed about was the number of glitches the game displayed. More than once I had to reload a save point because the game glitched and I could not progress further and on one occasion it outright crashed and I had to manually turn the console off and reboot.
Despite the added content and touted improvements to the Instincts game, Far Cry: Instincts - Predator earns a slightly lower "B" score than its predecessor. The improvements are marginal at best (which may be a tribute to just how well FCI was executed on the Xbox) and the game is really not offering anything new in gameplay. The multiplayer aspects of the game continue to be strong – with some reservations – and the map editor is better than ever. In the field of first-person shooters that have found their way to the Xbox 360, FCIP is very good, but it is not quite great.
