Round two! That's what Konami must have been thinking when they came
out with Metal Gear Ac!d 2, because they came out swinging. With a great
improvement to the graphics, new Solid Eye 3D Glasses, a new Arena game
type, and a huge selection of new cards Metal Gear Ac!d 2 looks like an
exciting sequel to the hit Metal Gear Ac!d.
Metal Gear Ac!d 2 puts us in the shoes of Snake, who has forgotten
everything about his past, and is picked up and arrested by FBI agent
Dalton, who forces Snake to do missions for him to avoid arrest after
arriving in the United States. The game play is very similar to Metal Gear
Ac!d. (the prequel) As you go through the levels you collect new cards,
with some hidden in each level, like a lot of weapon cards, and some you
can obtain from just completing a mission. You also unlock new video
clips each time you complete a new mission.
The Solid Eye is a unique feature to Metal Gear Ac!d 2. The Solid Eye,
which is just a thin cardboard box with a thin splitter, works as 3D
glasses with in-game video clips. But the video clips are a little weird.
Like for example, there are a ton of videos of an Asian girl just doing
mundane actions like laying down, or coming outside. I don't think I
know what purpose these videos serve, and I think they are very
misplaced.
The graphics in Metal Gear Ac!d 2 have changed a lot from its previous
release; giving up the 3D look that Metal Gear Ac!d had incorporated,
Metal Gear Ac!d 2 takes on a shell shaded, or comic book look. With the
graphics in Metal Gear Ac!d 2 looking much more crisp. The unit
textures, and effect graphics are the only aspects affected by this change.
The world of map textures are still 3D and still look a little grainy.
But other than that the graphics in Metal Gear Ac!d 2 look awesome.
In multi player mode you can face off with your friends in a small
battle area over a Wi-Fi connection. Multi player mode in general is fairly
basic. You are placed in a smallish area with one other opponent and
are expected to find and just basically head butt, making for more of a
action game feel than a tactical strategy game. You can also use the
Wi-Fi connection to trade or transfer cards, giving your friends all the
hot cards so they can rank up easier. There are a few exemption to doing
this though, like for example some cards require you to have a minimum
amount of hit points before you can use them, but you can still
effectively help boost your friend's power by transferring him some cards.
There are well over 500 different types of cards in Metal Gear Ac!d 2.
A majority of the cards are obtained through normal game play, but some
require you to punch in passwords or link up with Metal Gear Solid 3:
Subsistence. There are three different types of cards in Metal Gear Ac!d
2, The Equipped, Active, and Unique Cards. Equipped Cards are basically
just cards that will fit into one of your equip slots, and they also
have a passive effect, like Body Armor or a Rifle Scope for example.
There are also Active cards, which are used, and do an immediate active
effect, like firing a weapon, or placing a claymore. Then there are Unique
cards. Unique cards are like special attack kind of cards, and are one
of the real unique feature of Metal Gear Ac!d: 2. Hence why I call then
Unique. Each card works very differently, but they usually all do
damage. From some cards having unlimited range, and the ability to be used
through walls, to the cards that can cause fear, or just do massive
damage.
Arena mode takes us into a small battle environment where we face off
with classic bosses from the Metal Gear Solid series. In Arena mode we
are thrown into a very small arena with one or more opponents, but
unlike the normal game we start off with the alert status already on. With
both opponents aware of your location and already moving towards you.
Which makes for a more of an action-like feel than a tactical strategy.
With a ton of new features including The Solid Eye, improvements to
the graphics, the huge improvement in the amount of cards you can
have, all in all I think that Metal Gear Ac!d 2 will not only appeal to fans
of Metal Gear Ac!d series, but anyone who enjoys tactical strategy games
and doesn't mind the cartoonish graphics.
