One of Cloning Clyde’s best features is the multiplayer. There’s a split screen vs and co-op mode and there’s also an online co-op and versus mode with up to 4 players. Playing the game with my kids was a lot of fun, and co-op always works better with people just learning to play rather than versus. During versus mode, you have to destroy your opponent’s security machines before they destroy yours.
The game’s Achievement points aren’t as easy to get as some of the other Live Arcade games (as in, don’t expect 100 points in the first 10 minutes). Get into versus mode right off for a quick 12 (!) points and for every mutant you create in the cloning machine you also get some achievement points.
Although the genre of gaming isn’t new, Cloning Clyde feels original. With Xbox Live Arcade games coming out every week for the Summer of 06, I fear that Cloning Clyde will get lost in the shuffle. It’s definitely a summer sleeper hit. At 800 points ($10) it’s double the cost of Frogger and Galaga, but I think you’ll get much more enjoyment out of this one game over those two arcade classics.
