LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures Review
11 out of 15
Having fun with deja vu.

This game has a much greater puzzle element to it than the previous Star Wars games, so you'll spend a lot of time exploring and breaking things open to find just what you need to either get to that artifact behind the fence, or simply progress to the next level. Boss battles aren't very common, and are never very difficult however it can be annoying to be constantly interrupted by being shot by Germans while you're trying to assemble your massive piece of artillery. Isn't that just like those Germans? Never considering the feelings of others.

In between levels you'll be treated to some hilarious cut scenes from the various movies rendered in Lego-vision. Some serious compression had to be done to get the movies to fit on the DS cartridge, and as a result, the quality is quite poor, however it's worth it to see the scenes handled with the goofy, yet sometimes cruel, Lego sense of humor. Graphically, the game portions of the game are done well, with distinct character models and little slowdown, except for places where there's a lot of fighting and bricks are a flying. On the audio side, the trademark John Williams score is present as well as plenty of weapon sound effects.

Once you've found every thing there is to find, there are plenty of mini games to tackle back at Barnett college such navigating Indy over studs and away from rocks as he's dragged behind a truck, or using Lego pieces to put together puzzles based on items from the movies. You can also help out a friend over the DS's wireless connection provided you both have your own copy of the game.

Traveller's Tales didn't do much to mess with the winning formula from the Lego Star Wars series so the result is the same accessible, fun and goofy experience as in earlier games. Unfortunately, it's almost exactly the same accessible, fun and goofy experience, so those that had their fill of Lego games with earlier outings won't find enough new stuff here to get them excited all over again, Indiana Jones fanatics notwithstanding. Those that have never played the previous games or liked them enough to want more won't be disappointed by Lego Indiana Jones's mix of fun characters, combat and level exploration. Sometimes more of the same can be a bad thing, but in this case, it's just what Dr. Jones ordered.
