Online play is supported for both random matches and Friend Code matches. Both are limited to match play however Friend Code matches offer a bevy of customization options. Random Matches are limited to Beginner's mode, where you hit from the front tees and the onscreen guides are present in every shot and a harder mode where you tee off from farther away and the guides are present only for the first shot. Making a connection is easy and the games are lag free, however your opponent gets up to a minute on every shot, which makes for a lot of waiting on your part. You can spend some of this time hitting the A button on your Wiimote to send taunts your opponent's way, which then come out of the Wiimote speaker, up until they swing the club. You can't taunt them while they're swinging, not that I tried such a clearly unsportsmanlike action. If your opponent disconnects in the face of your tireless, online assault, the CPU will take over for them, and your online record will stand. Locally the game supports up to four players for those hot, Saturday night golf parties.
Visually, the game uses a very bright color palette with lots of sparkles and flashes to underscore the happy, cutesy vibe. The early courses, though well done, aren't anything all that interesting; however the later seaside courses and ghostly pirate courses are much more fun to look at. The game's audio is also upbeat and peppy however you'll quickly tire of the music and the voice work can be annoying, especially from Chip and Birdie.
How much you like We Love Golf will be directly tied to how much of a challenge you like in your golf games. Players that obsess over every club purchase or need to have complete control over their golfer's stats will be turned off by the low level of difficulty but for players new to the genre, or new to videogaming in general, the stylish and happy theme of the game, combined with the intuitive controls makes for a fun golfing experience.
