Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath Review
10 out of 15
Another middling real-time strategy port, Kane's Wrath is still best left to the PC.

Most of the time, you won’t need to use a lot of fancy stuff. The skirmish AI veers between stupidly early rushes – letting you walk in easily with a counter attack – and a peculiarly somnolent economic focus – letting you destroy harvesters as they roam to the nearest Tiberium fields. You will rarely be pushed to climb the upper part of the tech tree,

Not that the game has great AI to begin with. But at least on the PC version it could cover up its weaknesses with constant pressure. There is little pressure to do anything here on the 360. Even the campaign seems to have been nerfed; there are token AI attempts to weaken you at the beginning, but there seems to be fewer serious scripted challenges than you may remember.

Kane’s Wrath on the 360 isn’t quite a delight, but it’s not a disaster either. The very simple C&C economy is suited to the platform, and since the game is all about beating the stuffing out of other things, there isn’t a lot of tactical nuance to worry about. While still much inferior to the PC version, it stands out as a passable port, certainly much better than 360 users have come to expect. The better pacing and consistent UI means that you can take your time if you need to, but that it’s never too hard to figure something out.

It’s still a relic, though. The upcoming Red Alert game from EA is being developed simultaneously for the PC and the 360, a sign that they know that the days of console RTS gamers being satisfied with a half-implemented port of a mouse driven game are over.
