Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 All-Play Review
11 out of 15
Not exactly revolutionary, but certainly solid

Also new to this year's version is the club tuning option that appears in the 360 and PS3 versions as well as other coaching via Hank Haney, Tiger Woods' own personal shot coach. If your shots constantly fly off to the right, or the left, you can go to the driving range and get club tuning tips for every type of club in the bag. You can also forgo Hank's tips and make your own changes if you feel like you know better than the guy who coaches one of the most prolific golfers in the history of the sport. Haney will also show up randomly whenever you muff a shot enough and give you the chance to practice the shot some more and build your confidence. Last year's confidence system makes a return and seems to be as useless as it was last year; however it's nice to know that Hank is concerned enough about your self image to watch over your every move.

If you tire of the Tiger Challenges, the arcade games, the traditional golf games, the PGA tournaments or the FedEx cup you can take your skills online to compete against others. The online experience is handled by EA, which means no unwieldy Friends Codes, just an EA login that you can create on the Wii, and in a nod to getting you into the action and playing as quickly as possible, you and your opponents all play the hole at the same time. As you traverse the course, you'll see the arcs of your opponents' shots, as well as what number stroke they're on. The only time you'll spend an appreciable amount of time doing nothing is when waiting for others to finish the hole. Matchmaking is fast and simple, and the online play is lag free, if also somewhat personality free, however you can finish a nine hole round in about half an hour and again, there are no Friends codes to deal with so in the end, it's a good trade off.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any changes made it to the graphics engine this year and while the game does a competent job of showing off courses and players, it still looks like an old PS2 port. At least everything runs smoothly, with no graphical hitches to speak of. Kelly Tillman and Sam Torrance make their Tiger Woods debut as commentators and while they're nothing special, they say new things which is more than last year's version could boast.

If you were waiting for a golf video game that completely changes the notion of what a golf video game can be, well, you're still waiting. If you want a well controlled game of golf that's both accessible to newcomers and challenging to veterans with tight, well implemented controls and more content then you can shake a 5-iron at then Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 All-Play fits the bill. It's not perfect, but it's the best golf game on the Wii and provides a fun game of golf for players of all skill levels.
