Hell’s Kitchen Review
2 out of 15
Not even virtual Gordon Ramsay can save this one.

With a game like this there could have been so much potential – keeping it true to the show by having special events, losing challenges could result in a clean up the garbage minigame, etc. – but all we have is a simple, generic cooking game that requires very little skill and is not fun at all.

The lack of options is laughable; you can choose from Arcade mode, which is akin to a survival mode where the customers keep coming until Gordon throws you out of the kitchen. There’s also aforementioned career mode and two multiplayer modes – cooperative or competitive. These modes are more like the reality show in that there’s a red kitchen and blue kitchen, but again, that’s where the resemblance ends.

The hysterical part occurs on each “day” in career mode – where you’re presented a recipe/special of the day – the original PC game allowed you to print this out and even encouraged you to try the recipe at home…but on a Wii, well that’s another story. Memo to developers: if you expect me to hand write each one of these recipes, you are completely insane – and with such out of this world recipes like “Chocolate Chip Cookies,” you know it’s well worth your time to write that out instead of reading the back of the chocolate chip bag.

You can’t fault Ubisoft for false advertising – you are truly in Hell’s Kitchen – I would assume if you were in Hell, this is exactly how it would be. This game is definitely in the running for worst game of the year – avoid it at all costs.
