You can battle it out with your friends, sing duets, even team matches and if you have an Eye Toy hook it up and video yourself singing. The karaoke part of the package is also done very well most of the time, if you go in to a song such as Start of Something New in single player you’ll be given the option of Cast, Gabriella or Troy to determine which part to sing. While this is nicely done in some songs, it is tacked on in others. For example in This is Me the Devi Lovato song from Camp Rock, it lists it as player 1 & 2 instead of Devi and Joe Jonas and the parts really don’t match. I know said Jonas brother doesn’t have as many lyrics as Ms. Lovato and understand why it was done but it’s a bit odd. It also would have been nice to see the video play in full screen without the lyrics if you wanted. You can watch the video however as there is no concept of failing in this game. You’re just rated locally on your scores in the PS3 version. But those are minor quibbles in a package that is shockingly well done.
The other part is the singing lessons. You’ll get a quick video snip it from Olesya Rulin, that’s Kelsi from High School Musical for those out of the loop, and she will guide you along your singing way. Topics run the gambit from warm up exercises, breathing techniques and how to hit those high notes. As someone who has spent time with a vocal coach I can tell you that the lessons here are perfect for younger kids and they will enjoy doing them.
Is Disney Sing It something you should add to your gaming line up? The answer is surprisingly simple, if you have kids that are into Disney, its movies and artists then without question: YES. High School Musical Sing It owners may be skeptical but I’ve been there and this is nothing like that travesty of a game. Everyone else however should probably stay away as this game is not targeted at you. But Disney Sing It is a well put together Karaoke package that other players in the genre should take a hard look at because this is how it should be done.
