Foreign Legion: Buckets of Blood
10 out of 15
There’s much fun to be had as a pint-sized Legionnaire.

Due to the very basic nature of the game it shines most when played in short bursts, as during longer sessions of thirty minutes or more it gets repetitive quickly. Also, though no-one should expect a large sound palette out of a budget title the warning beep that sounds every time your objective is under attack becomes grating immediately, as it is a very sharp and high pitched beep that occurs for nearly every bullet that strikes it. Finally, though the hit boxes on the enemies are spot on it is another story for objects such as rocks or trees, and it can be often hard for you or the rebels alike to shoot over or around an object that has a clear line of sight.

That being said, Foreign Legion is an indie game that holds up well for how inexpensive it is. The gameplay is intuitive and somewhat addictive, thanks to both its level up system as well as its tight integration with online scoreboards. The game’s comic presentation (not to mention its infatuation with shooting chickens) is certainly unique, and in short bursts the small level count has a lot of replay value as you try to get the high score. For being developed by four people and with a purchase price of around the same amount in dollars, Foreign Legion is a worthwhile investment for some mindless fun.
