War, huh, good God y'all, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again! Well, that's not entirely true. War is good for unknowingly starting the Apocalypse, raining hellfire down upon the Earth and generally turning humanity into a race of shambling zombies and demon chow. As War you'll go on an epic journey of revenge and demon tail kicking with the occasional stop to show a parking meter who's boss. Along with being a very entertaining mash-up of God of War and The Legend of Zelda, Darksiders also represents a very attainable 1000 points. Course some stuff is easier to do than others, but with this guide, those points will fall to your mighty weapons as easily as a staggering, post-apocalyptic zombie.

There are a few things about the game to talk about before getting into the achievements. First of all, you can save anywhere as long as there aren't any enemies around. Some times you can use this to farm kills, sometimes you can't. Second is that the game does have an autosave feature, however relying on it as your sole means of saving may make your life more difficult. This guide will recommend saving in certain places but make sure they're manual saves, not you relying on the autosave. Finally, once you complete the game you can go back and navigate the world to get any collectibles you may need, as well as farm kills so if you don't want to go out of the way while doing the game's main story you don't have to. Now, getting some of the collectibles along the way will make your life easier and there are some achievements you can't go back and get so pay attention to the guide so that you don't miss out on anything.

This guide divides up the game's achievements into like categories. Each achievement has the achievement's title, achievement text, point value and a brief description. If all you're looking for is that final wrath shard, skip to the end of the guide for a complete location description of all achievement related collectibles, including the Abyssal Armor pieces.

Difficulty Level Achievements

You Call That Easy? - 10 pts

Complete the game on EASY

Balance Restored - 100 pts

Defeat the game on NORMAL

The True Horseman - 100 pts

Defeat the game on APOCALYPTIC

Thankfully all of the difficulty achievements stack meaning that if you complete the game on Apocalyptic you'll get all of the points for normal and easy. So, how hard is Apocalyptic? Not very. Smaller enemies such as zombies and demon swordsmen will provide no problem provided you don't let them swarm you. Larger demons will mess you up something fierce if you're not careful. The trick is to learn how to use War's dash move. For larger enemies the rule of the day is to run in, do a small combo and then dash away. Patience and learning the attack patterns of your enemies will be key. In larger fights keeping your eye on where your enemies are, moving the camera if need be is also important. Finally, using War's finishing moves by pressing the B button whenever the prompt appears above an enemy's head is incredibly important as it refills War's Wrath guage allowing him to use his magical powers more. Also, and this is the really important part, War doesn't take damage while the animation is going on so you can use the brief moment of killing to position the camera and see how you need to dash away.

If none of all of this dashing and being smart about combat appeals to you then play the game on Normal and get all of the pieces of Abyssal Armor. Once unlocked War can wear it into subsequent playthroughs making your Apocalyptic run all the easier. Of course two playthroughs will take longer than one cautious one but only you can decide how best to spend your time.

Story Achievements

While there may be specific tasks you need to accomplish to get these story related achievements, at the end of the day, you can't complete the game without getting these. Lucky you.

Death Dealer - 10 Points

Meet Vulgrim

Vulgrim is a merchant. Meet him at the Crossroads.

To Move A Mountain - 10 Points

Collect the Earthcaller

Vulgrim wants 500 souls for the Earthcaller, a giant horn used to open the various golem gate thingies. Get some souls, get the Earthcaller, get the achievement.

Prison Break - 20 Points

Free Samael from his prison

To free Samael you'll have to take on the demon standing guard. It's not a terribly difficult fight however if you're going the apocalyptic route and using your dodge move, this guy has a double straight ahead attack that will hit you if you dodge straight back from him. Better to dodge away at an angle. At certain points in the fight he'll summon some demon swordsmen and then go take a powder so deal with them and then resume on taking him out. Once he's dead move the two fountain things and Samael is free.
