Microsoft announced this morning that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a reimagining of the original Xbox shooter from Bungie, has added the classic Halo 2 map Headlong (now called Breakneck)to list of multiplayer arenas. The company also announced that the beta for the upcoming Halo: Reach title update opens on October 4 on Xbox LIVE.

Announced today at the Tokyo Game Show, Breakneck is a remake of the Halo 2 fan favorite large-scale multiplayer map. Headlong provides a large, skyscraper-hemmed construction site with numerous vantage points for snipers as well as a large central basin for vehicle combat - for 8 - 16 players.

343 Industries also debuted and demoed the very first Halo campaign, Pillar of Autumn in its newly remastered Halo: Anniversary form. While the corridors and corners of the starship remain true to the original, the all-new graphical treatment and remastered audio is where the company believes it shines.

Also in Tokyo, 343 Industries revealed new details on the upcoming title update for Halo: Reach. Announced at Halo Fest, the update features the return of the Halo: Combat Evolved Magnum pistol and classic playlists.

The update will also introduce multiplayer fixes including balancing armor abilities like Armor Lock and Active Camo. Players will be able to experience a first taste of some of these changes when beta playlists become available on Oct. 4. The beta will be open to all Halo: Reach players with an active Xbox LIVE Gold membership, and will culminate with the launch of a full suite of classic playlists and map variants when Halo: Anniversary” arrives on Nov. 15.
