Call of Duty 2 makes that 12 hour wait in line to buy an Xbox 360 that many endured a worthwile endeavor.

From start to finish the game was just a ton of fun to play. Did I at least have one little gripe with the game? Yes! While I expect that movies will put the wrong tank or gun in the wrong battle (Hell, there is only one known operating Tiger tank in the entire world.), I don’t expect it in the cyber world where having the real item is not necessary. The first thing I noticed was a Sherman tank in the North African desert with a Cullen cutter fitted to its bow. This handy little field modification, also known as the "hedge chopper", would not come into use until the latter half of 1944 when the Allies found themselves hung up in the French hedgerow country around Normandy. The second was the appearance of a Panzer Mark II tank in Normandy. By 1944 the hopelessly obsolete, lightly armored and armed Mark II had been withdrawn from service by the Germans as a battle tank. The designers also need to note that the British Sten sub-machine gun and the German MP40 used identical ammo and magazines. The British designed their gun that way so the paratroopers and commandos, who widely employed the weapon, could use captured German stocks since resupplying these units could be problematic. Infinity Ward either needs better historical equipment advisors or they need to listen to the ones they already have. Okay, enough of my historical nitpicking.

As stated before, this game is just a ton of fun from the first training mission as a Russian to the final defeat of the Germans at the end of the American campaign. As you play the game you just can’t help dropping your jaw in amazement at what you’re seeing and getting to do. This is the game you want to pull out and show when one of your non-gaming friends asks, "So what is so great about the Xbox 360 that you waited like an idiot in line 12 hours to get it?" Seeing Call of Duty 2 will shut them right up. And while the Xbox 360 may not yet have a true killer app game that will single-handedly sell systems, Call of Duty 2 is pretty close.
