Unlike “Smackdown,” there’s no specific story or career mode to speak of. You start off selecting new game or loan game. From there you start at the locker room, where you pick a character. Their version of story mode doesn’t have a plot line, it’s just look at a map, hit the button on the mode of fighting you want, and get in there. Sometime you’ll have a championship match, and if you win, that’s an Xbox Achievement for you.

Check out the “Queens Match” where you pick a penalty for the loser. Such penalties include “tickling” and “sexy pose.” Anyhoo, after each match your popularity changes, and you earn money to buy all those other lovely costumes. Other modes include “street fight” which is more like a round of Dead Or Alive (you have KO meters, 2 out of 3 KO’s wins), the obligatory ‘museum’ where you find ‘artwork’ and more.

There are 43 total achievements, but they are more of a pain to get then other games. I can certainly understand challenges, but “obtain all of Evil Rose’s costumes” isn’t a must-play reason for me.

The online mode can be a lot of fun. Playing against actual human opponents adds to the replay value of the game. You are assigned a player rating from S (best) to F (worst) (Not sure how that rating system works, but for the record it’s S-A-B-C down to F. Finding an online opponent was a bit of a challenge at first, but once you play, the game is virtually lag free and fun to play.

Overall, Rumble Roses is a game that may give you a nice diversion but for $60, it’s not worth the price of admission. Although the game is rated M, I see the target audience being 13-17 year old males who prefer graphics over gameplay. You may want to rent it at best.
