LoTR: The Battle For Middle Earth II Review
11 out of 15
Whaaa? An RTS for a console that doesn’t suck? Believe it!

The soundtrack is straight out of the movies and sounds great. The sounds of battle are well represented here with each character having a different sound. The audio is very impressive.

Although the single player doesn’t last very long, the multiplayer has some serious potential. If I may make a suggestion: don’t play online until you have finished the offline as all your heroes that you recruit offline can be used online. Having heroes online can make or break you so it’s very important that you bring them into the online heroes game. There are quite a few modes online—I prefer the traditional skirmish (Versus) which basically puts you out there with up to 3 other players and the last one standing wins. Other modes include King of the Hill and Capture the Flag. These games can be very fast or very long depending on the players…the games can be difficult but they are fun, even if you lose.

Overall LOTR:BFM2 is a quality console RTS game. There are still times that I’d prefer playing this type of game on a PC, but overall I found the controls easy to work with and although I was frustrated at my lack of ability I didn’t think it was the fault of the controls at all. While this game won’t change anyone’s opinion of an RTS (you either like them or you don’t), even non-fans may want to give this one a rental just to see what all the talk is about.
