As you go through the endless hordes of bad guys who just never seem to stop you’ll acquire weapon drops like shotguns and machine guns. These definitely help you kill the 45 little red men in front of you but they last somewhere between 10-15 seconds upon pick up. There are some cool secondary weapons like a turret that can be placed, but again the camera ruins them as they quickly scroll of the screen when you move.
The game offers four player co-op on a single console and over Xbox Live. I would love to comment on how smooth it was over Live but I can’t. I tried for the better part of a week to go online and join a quick game to no avail and no one on my friends list owns this game, presumably because they are all smart.
Split Screen on the same console however it is very smooth with no lag and it makes the game much easier, which frankly is not a compliment because the game is easy enough as is.
Rocketmen Axis of Evil would have been a stellar hit in the 1980s when I was pumping quarters into arcade machines. In 2008 it’s a mediocre title at best. Perhaps some enjoyment could be had by the younger audience in co-op play, but if I want to punish my kids I’ll force them to become Cubs fans.
