I can tell you with some assurance that the actual rules of Warhammer are at work behind the scenes, but the player is rarely afforded a cursory glimpse of them. There isn’t a single worthwhile statistic given when buying units, so how do you know the difference between a Chaos Marauder and Chaos Warrior or a Goblin and Night Goblin, that your unit has the Cleaving Death attribute, or what that attribute even does? You either know it or you don’t. You can bring up a few statistics on the battlefield, albeit after you have purchased the unit, but they are generally useless. Can someone tell me what the icon of a head and two crescents signifies?
I suppose I could go on about the four-player, online multiplayer, the availability of six army-types including the Skaven and High Elves, or the solid Create an Army option, but all of it is plagued by the same problems mentioned above. I spent five minutes alone trying to figure out how to paint the shields of my customized army. The basics for a great rendition of Warhammer are there, but they’re buried too deeply in the mire of frustration to be appreciated. As a fan, I’m tired of making compromises. When does my loyalty get rewarded?
