Ghostbusters: The Video Game Review
11 out of 15
Busting does, in fact, make me feel good.

There are four “campaigns” with a total of 12 maps in all in locales like the museum, the cemetery and the library. You also get to pick your player so if you want to play as Dr. Venkman – have at it. There are various game modes which task you to protect Egon’s EQ, destroy ghost summoning artifacts, and so on. A multiplayer game basically sends the team out on a call and players are scored by how many ghosts they catch. You also have to hunt for weapon upgrades, which seems sort of silly. In all, multiplayer adds a great deal of replay value to the package and if you have a group of buddies ready to tackle co-op mode, it’s certainly worth checking out. It would have been nice if you could play the full campaign in co-op mode but this is still better than nothing. (Note: Speaking of nothing. the PC version does not support multiplayer for reasons that…I really can’t explain.)

Ghostbusters is a much better game than anticipated because I suppose I am hung up on the fact that licensed games, by and large, fail to meet the standards of the license it’s based on – but this adaption of the lore is a success. The gameplay has its faults, many of them really basic design flaws, but maybe it’s nostalgia? Or the fact that I finally get to demolish the Sedgwick Hotel? I think if you strip away the license this ends up being a pretty average 3rd person action adventure – but add the authentic Ghostbusters flavor and you are left with a game that works, if only because it fulfills real childhood dreams of following the four Ghostbusters into the heart of Gozerland.

And remember --- “GET HER!”
