Rikimaru Walkthrough

Mission One: Echigoya

Punish the evil Merchant!

Before the mission starts, you will be in a forest. Run to the left a screen or two and you will come to a waterfall. A scene will start and this mission will begin. Start off this mission by grappling up to the roof top in front of you. You start this level running across rooftops in search of Echigoya. A quick look down and you will see a guard not far away patrolling on the ground. To easily kill this guard run around him on the rooftops until you get behind him. Hit the buzzing bee hive below when he is near it with a shuriken. The bees will attack the guard and kill him. But that’s no fun, so go for the stealth kill.

Run along the rooftops to the far right corner of the map until you get a cut scene showing you 3 guards having a good time. The cut scene shows you a key beside one of the guards and then the door which you need the key to open. You can throw in a grenade to get the guards to scatter and search for you, but when they do, one of the guards will pick up the key and take it with him. You will need to kill each guard until you find which one has it.

Your best bet is to drop down from the roof and charge in. You may get 1-2 stealth kills depending how fast you are. Kill the remaining guards and take the key. Head back to the rooftops to take out the guard that is covering the locked door by the ramp. Open the lock and head through the passage way to the next area.

The other option is to enter the building through the doors where the first guard was, by the bee hive. If you choose this entrance, enter the main doors and run through the building until you come to a crawlspace. Enter it and you will bypass the whole door/key trouble.

When you are in the second area, you can either enter the building through the main doors of the large house or a crawlspace in the ground, located down the side alleyway. This will take you inside of the Echigoyas’ house. I prefer to take the crawlspace. Here’s how to get there.

Run like mad to the wall of the while building facing you, when you exit the hole from the first area. Take out the guard that will be walking your way on the left. Grapple up to the roof of the white buildings and make your way east. Hop over the rooftops until you drop down into the alleyway behind the really big building. There will be an opening in the ground here that will lead you into the house.

To get through the house it is pretty straight forward, although I do suggest moving in stealth mode constantly. There are countless sliding doors that you will want to open by putting your back against the wall beside them. When you come across a sleeping cat, keep your distance from it as you sneak past. If it wakes up, it will freak out, alerting any nearby guards. When you enter through the crawl space, quietly crouch up to the ledge, dropping down and killing the sleeping samurai there. Grapple up to the opening on the right, grab the ninja rebirth and continue through the hallways in the house. Through a few doors, a short scene will play and you will be squaring off with Tajima.

Tajima

Defeating Tajima is pretty straight forward. Run away from him while he fires off rounds from his gun. When you hear him say “Fly baby!” it means he is about to throw you into the air with his sword. When he tosses you in the air, he fires a few rounds from his gun into you Dante style. It is a good idea to keep a safe distance when you hear his warning. Jumping over his head and attacking him from behind works pretty good as an attack tactic. Repeat this a few times and he’ll be dead in no time.

Continue through the house and the next few doors. As always keep your back to the wall when you open them and look for samurai. Make your way through two doors and you will come to a sleeping cat and a small crawl space at the far end of the hallway. You can either go through the crawl space or go through the door on the left and take out the samurai. Either way will take you to the same spot, a dead end with a dresser in the corner. Look up to the top in the corner and you will see an opening. Grapple up there and walk quietly through the attic. Go around the right corner and there will be a samurai waiting in an alcove to the right. Walk hug and take him out when he turns to the side. Continue through and drop down the hole when you reach it to take out another samurai. Grab the health off the ground and go through the door to a room with beams in the floor. Drop down and the boss fight will start.

Nasu

When the battle starts, Nasu will be in the room with two Samurai’s. Take the two guards out first and then work on Nasu. Give Nasu a beating with a standard block/attack combo, but watch out when he is low on health. He will start to whine and cry like a little baby and place an item down in front of him. Do not go to grab it. Stay away from him when he is whining or else he will nail you with a huge hit that will send you flying across the room into the wall. You can let him get back up and then continue to kick his ass, or toss a shuriken or two at him. After he is beaten, a cut scene will start and the mission ends.

Mission Two: Gohda Castle

Execute Hamada and return to Lord Gohda

Keep in mind that at the start of this mission you cannot kill anyone. So being spotted is really bad since they can take pokes at you. From the start, drop down the hole in the floor right beside you and immediately head into the room on the right and hug the door at the far end and wait for the guard to walk past. When he does, go to the right and hug the corner there. Watch the guard at the far end to turn and run to the end of the hall and enter the small room there. Go through the opposite door and go straight down the hall to the room on the right which will have some cushions on the ground and a samurai. Wait until the samurai lies down and then sneak through the room. Make a left turn and head down the long hall. Look on the map and you will see a flashing star halfway down the hall you are in. Go there and you will find Hamada himself.

A cut scene will play and now the castle is over run by ninjas which you can take out. If you choose to take the long way around you will need to pick up Hamada’s key after you defeat him. It is much easier to take the secret passage way which you don’t need the key for. Run to the far end of the room to take the secret passage to exit into a room with an armor stand. Hug the wall by the door as it opens. Sneak up on the ninja in the next room and make your way out into the hallway. Go to the left and there will be along hallway with a ninja at the far end. When he turns, quickly roll all the way up to him and take him out. Continue through the door and head up the stairs.

Go into the next room and take out the ninja there as he walks to the left. Go through the door there and be careful here. On the other side of the wall are two ninjas with only one visible. Try and time it right so that when you run into the room he is turned away from you. He doesn’t turn for long and can be pretty tricky to time. Take care of the ninja in the adjoining room when you are done with this one. Make your way through the door and around the corner. As soon as you enter, a ninja will be right around the corner from you so be prepared to take him out quickly. Continue down the hall and hug the next corner and there will be a ninja walking around in the next hall. Kill him when he turns and keep going until you finally reach the room at the end. There will be one ninja in here behind the gold screen walking around. When he turns, do your stuff and drop down the stairs there to the golden hallways. Go through them and the mission ends with a scene with Lord Gohda and Ayame.

Mission Three: Limestone Cavern

Find the Shichishito Sword

You start this level inside a tunnel looking over looking a pond. Take out the ninja in the tower with either a blow dart or by double jumping and stealth killing him. There are two more ninjas patrolling across from the tower on the other side of the water.

When they are dealt with, head down the tunnel to the left. There are no enemies along here until you get to the exit where there are two ninjas patrolling around on the tracks below you. Take out the closest one to you while the other one is far away on the other side of the cave. Either continue down the tunnel or go and take out the other one. Down this tunnel and to the right is a ninja walking around. Take the right tunnel and you will come to a gap at the top of the slope. Also on the other side of the gap is your first red demon enemy called Jonins. When he is turned, double jump over the gap and kill the demon from behind. Continue down the passage and you will come to a drop off with a ninja patrolling below.

Drop down and kill him when he turns and then take a look up. There will be a ninja on the ledge above fooling around. Grapple up to the high ledge behind him and deal with the ninja there. Run along and drop down into the pit with the blue lights flying around. Go right and grapple over the pit and take out the Blue Jonin. Run down the tunnel until you reach the outside platform where you will need to sneak up on a red Jonin.

Drop off the edge to the right and have fun fall a loooong way down. Crouch when you land so you don’t make any noise. Run inside the doorway and take out the red Jonin there. Go around the corner and you will come to a bunch of pots on the left wall. There is a ninja around the corner as well. Take him out and go left around the corner and left again to come to a set of stairs. Head up the stairs and make a right to another rather long drop off. Run along the wooden planks stealth killing the ninjas along here. Keep going till you reach the rickety wooden walkways above water. While moving quickly to the far left corner of the cave here, you are going to want to crouch and somersault the entire way. There is way to much water here to get through and not make a sound. When you reach the far left corner grapple up to the wooden walkway there and take out the lonely ninja. Head left down the tunnel until you reach the circular room filled with water.

Onikage

Onikage just doesn’t seem to be trying in this battle. Dodge his flying feet of fury kicks and sidestep his attacks. When he misses, slice him up. Keep doing this attack repeatedly until he is no more. After a mildly confusing cut scene, the battle with Onikage starts again. Repeat what you did the first time although he seem much more grabby feely this time around. Try not to get to close to him because he will grab you and give you some heavy damage. Do not let him grab you at all costs and do not let him drink any health potions.

Mission Four: Deserted Temple

Kill all who follow you!

Make your way to the red building to the right. There are a few ninja’s around it that you need to take out. There is one on the left side and two on the right. When you have them relieved of breathing, go towards the wooden walkway behind the building. Here you have two options to go. You can either go around the hill on the ledge or you can enter the mine shaft and drop through the hole in the ground. The shaft leads to the same place as the ledge but on the opposite side. There is also no ninja’s down in the shaft, only Jonin so it isn’t necessary to go down there. I did however and when you kill the few simple Jonin in there, you will come out side to another open area. There are a few enemies here including ninja and Kunoichi but nothing you can’t handle.

Make your way to the building where there are two Joninn guarding and head up the stairs to enter it. Grab the health potion inside and make your way back out. Clear out the rest of the enemies around the building here. There are a few on each side to deal with. After there are no more in this area, head to the left and you will come to a very large wooden gate. Grapple over it and there should be to more ninja’s left to kill. Kill them and the mission ends. There really is no specific way to complete this mission other than the fact you need to kill all the ninja’s. Whether that includes the Jonin or Kunoichi or not I’m not sure but I killed all of them as well anyways.

Mission Five: Ronin Village

Cross the Ronin Village!

When you start out this mission, head directly for the water in front of you. Jump down into it holding the stealth button so you make no noise. Jump up and grab the ledge on the other side and wait for the samurai to turn. Hop out and kill him and continue until you are across from the house on your left. Jump up to the rooftop. From here head straight across the roofs until you see a lone enemy walking in a large open area by himself. Feel free to jump down and stealth kill anyone you choose along the way. When you get close to the far side of the map, you will see an archer walking back and forth in front of the crawlspace. Take him out and get crawling through the hole.

In the next area, Crouch and roll through this water all the way to the wall. Peek around it and look for the dog over there. Try to take out he dog before he notices you. Blow Dart is probably your best bet. After he is chow, continue on through the water around the corner still moving silently.

When you get close to the ramp at the end, jump up to the right wall and wait for the Ronin there to turn around. When you kill him, quickly jump into the next small water way ahead of you on your left. Jump down into it and somersault until you nearly get to the end. Jump up to the ledge and wait for the Samurai here to turn. Climb up and kill him. Take out the Samurai behind the house on the right and you are home free. Run up to the gates and start the next area.

In this area, run down the stairs and jump on top of the first giant barrel to your left. There are three Samurai walking around in this area so choose your targets carefully. Take them out one at a time when none of them will be able to see each other. On top of the last giant barrel will be a ninja rebirth to grab. Go towards the giant gate for the next area.

In this area, stick to the rooftops on your left. Jump from rooftop to rooftop stealth killing any Samurais you see below you if you choose. When you see the large gate that is in the south east corner on the map, head to the rooftop directly right of it and wait for the guard to turn around. Jump off the roof to the ground and jump to grab the edge of the platform where the guard is walking around. When he turns, jump up and knock the stuffing out of him. Enter the gate to finish the mission.

Mission Six: Amagai Castle

Rescue the Kidnapped Princess!

Start off by hiding behind the wall to your direct left. Wait until the wooden Samurai walks closer to you and turns. Kill him, grapple up to the opening on the right and zip across the lava. Grapple over to your left and then back up to your right onto the orange and black boxes. Look down below and to the left for the wooden guard walking around. Jump over towards him and not straight down. If you drop straight down, spear will fly out of the wall at you.

Head around the corner and grab onto the wooden scaffold to your right. Shimmy across till you reach the guard walking on it. Take him out and keep going around the corner. Watch out for the squares on the floor that fall away. Roll under the spikes and kill the little guard here. Peek through the fire room and see where the guard is there. When he is facing away from you, whack the guard on the other side.

Grapple over the pit here with the spikes on the left side and head up the stairs. Sneak up on Chibot here and grapple up to the opening on the left. Walk to the first revolving door on your right straight ahead and go through it. There is a small room next to you that you can enter to take out another samurai robot. Do so and come back out and go through the door at the end of the hall. Head around the left corner, but watch out for the floor boards near the door that fall way when you walk over them. Take care of the archer in the next room on your way through. Grab the red box in the corner and drop down to go through the revolving door.

Grapple up to the opening on your left and take care of the Chibot. Jump over to the other side of the opening you jump climbed up and run through the door way as the door slams shut behind you. Grapple up to the bridge above you before the smoke bombs and grenades start going off in the room. Head right and drop down, jump over the pit and climb up the right wall ledge when you get to the other side. Stealth kill the archer here and head up the stairs. Grapple up to the ledge in front of you and take out the guard here. Grapple up another ledge, over the spike pit and keep on going around the left corner.

Take out the Chibot and at the end of the hallway, grapple up to your left. Hop up the two ledges and run across the passage as the floor boards give out if you stand on them too long and down the other side. Continue on down the hallway taking a right. Follow this path, taking out the two robots along the way. When you reach the room at the end of the walkway, grapple up and over the first set of gears. From here you will need to grapple over the second, larger set of gears.

When you arrive on the other side be careful of the archer on the other side of the blades doesn’t spot you. Jump past the blades and knock off the archer. Head over the pit and up the stairs for the show down the Dr. Kimaira and Maihime. The good Dr. Kimaira and his freaky doll put up a pretty good fight if you let them. The easiest, the definitely not the fastest way to defeat him is to stay away from him until he does his spin move. When he does, keep your block up until he stops, then haul ass on him. Keep doing this over and over and he will be dead sooner or later. When you are staying away from him watch out for his gun attack which he makes well known by moving his arms back and forth.

Mission Seven: Cemetery

Retrieve the steel for Ressai

At the beginning of the mission, you will be given a choice as to use either metal from Lord Mei-oh’s sword that you took earlier or use normal metal. Choose one and the mission will begin. Since you have to use the Muramasa sword through this mission, you are going to want to get through it as fast as you can. The sword drains your life slowly as you carry it although killing enemies with it will restore some of your health. Also for this mission, you are going to want to bring along as many health potions as you can carry.

From the start here will be a dancing demon directly in front of you. Immediately take him out and head over the fence to the left. Jump on top of the little house in the corner, taking out the undead Samurai on it and enter the door way behind it. Head down the passage and drop kill the undead guard at the bottom of the first drop off.

Head left and kill the archer jittering his way up and down the hallway. Keep on running until you see another drop off. Kill the guard that is standing at the top of it and jump down. Now the fun starts.

When you exit the tunnel and run outside, A cut scene will play and somewhat of a boss battle starts. There will be a swarm of undead and demons that you need to kill to move on through the mission. It really is difficult to deal with all of them at once and the fact that your sword is constantly draining your life doesn’t help. Use the little building to your advantage. Climb on top of it and keep the enemies separated is probably your best tactic to use. After they are all dead, continue through the way you were going and drop down into the well-like opening in the ground.

Head down the hallway taking out the undead swordsman and archer at the end. Jump down off the ledge and back up on the other side of the wall to your right. Keep running until you come to an outdoor area. To exit here you will want to head for the doorway at the left at the top of the hill. Go through the door and keep going down the passage until you come to a large drop and a floating head on the other side of it. Jump down and climb up stealth killing the head. Around the next corner you will come to another outdoor area.

Quickly jump to the platform to the right of the entrance way and stealth kill the undead guard walking below you there. Climb back up to the platform and head right. Jump down, run across the grassy area and climb up the ledge with the undead archer. Stealth kill him and grapple your way up and over the fencing at the top. It may take a few tries to find the right spot, but you’ll get over it eventually. Head inside the purple passageway and keep following the passage way until you come to a passage way on the right. Run along here and take out the archer on the right in the small alcove waiting there. Continue down the passageway and you will see a floating head at the end. Kill it and follow the hallway on the left as it goes around the bloodstained hallways. Around the corner you will reach the drop off into the room full of blood.

Jump down into the blood stealth killing the undead Samurai there. Grapple yourself up to the opening in the middle of the room, head down the passage and make a right turn where the sleeping cat is. There is also a floating head around so be careful of it. Head down this tunnel on the right until you reach the outdoor area. Roll straight ahead and crouch beside the wall. Carefully make your way around the corner and up the ramp on the other side of the platform. This can be tricky at best with two undead Samurai on the platform above you. Make your way up the ramp and then to the left. Make your way past the floating head and up another ramp there. To the right of the ramp will be an undead guard strolling around and the exit with the large symbol on it. Head for it to end the mission.

Mission Eight: Samurai Mansion

Stop Tadokoro’s Rebellion

It tells you at the beginning of this mission that there are a few ways to complete it. This is probably the most straight forward and easiest way to complete it. There are plenty of guards patrolling and there is a lot of open space for other guards to see your handy work. As soon as the mission starts, move to the left of the entrance and enter the water. Use the whistle incase the two guards are alerted to you. Wait about 10 seconds and watch with your back against the wall as the two guards walk away from the building they were in front of. Hug the wall and go left and wait at the corner for the guard to appear. When he does throw out some rice and kill him. Go to the end of the walkway and look to the left of the next building. There will be a hole in the ground through a well type wooden square.

Make a run for it and jump down the hole. Crawl through the hole when you hit the bottom and grapple out the other side. Hang on to the edge of the hole before jumping out and wait until the guard there turns. When he does, hop out and make a mess of him. Head for the building on the left and go up the stairs and around the walkway. Go around the corner and you will enter a hallway on the left that will take you inside the building. Follow the hallway and near the start of it will be a set of brown doors. Ignore those for now but you will be going right there is a second. Go to the end of the hall and make a left. When you do a scene will play. When the scene is over, go back to the brown doors you just walked past and they will now open.

Mifiyu

After the scene Mifiyu will attack. She is one tough customer if you let her start to wail on you will her swords. Keep your blocks up and attack her after she does a combo on you. Grabbing her seems to work well also since she loves to block your sword swipes. She has one bad ass move where she says “hello” and then strikes you with lightning speed. Always try to avoid that move as it will take off half of your life in one shot and blocking doesn’t work for it. Block her regular swipes and swipe back at her when she stops. If you want some more room to fight with, you can lure her outside to the open area there for a more wide open battle. As long as you don’t let her nail you with her “hello” move you should come out of this battle in one piece.

Mission Nine: Bamboo Forest

Find Ayame’s imposter!

Jump to the right and run behind the fence here. Watch red Jonin here and take him out when he is turned. Hide back around the wall where you just were and look far down the path at the Blue Jonin on top of a rock. When he isn’t looking, run like crazy to get in front of the rock. Climb up it and send him to a happier place.

Drop off the right side of the rock, run a few steps and head up a ramp on your left. There is a Blue Jonin here behind the fence, so be careful not to let him spot you. Stealth kill him and climb down the other side of this platform. Wait behind the rocks here for the Shikigami to turn around. Sneak up on it and kill it, stopping it’s really annoying sound. Crouch up to the edge of the slope here and watch for the Red Jonin patrolling below. Jump down and stealth kill him. Climb back up where you were and head for the doorway to the left of you. Feel free to shut up the Shikigami that is below you on the way in. If you do jump down to kill him, then climb back up to the ledge and enter the wooden door way when he’s done.

You can just run through the passageway without incident until you come to an outdoor area. Here is a healing spring which will heal you back to full strength if you crouch in it. Exit this area by crawling through the small tunnel to the left of where you entered from. Listen to the annoying wail of the Shikigami as you make your way through. When you come to the end you will see him floating around ahead of you. Hold the left trigger when you exit the tunnel so you don’t splash around in the water. Being far away, he is pretty tricky to get a stealth kill on but it’s still possible.

Sneak up the staircase to your right and jump down off the walkway and stealth kill him from above. After you make him poof away, head to the far end of the clearing to enter the cave. Beware of the dog that is walking back and forth around the entrance. Splashing in the water will alert him so roll through the water, hiding behind the poles to get the jump on him. Keep rolling through the water as you enter the cave.

There is a blue Jonin just inside that will be alerted if you are splashing. Take him out and continue down the tunnel, turning into the room on the left to get the jump on the Red Jonin down there. Make your way up the ramp and out the hole to exit the cave. Jump behind the bamboo fence to your left and climb over it to take out the Shikigami on the other side. Run over behind the other bamboo fence and wait for the werewolf there to turn around. (I am assuming it is a werewolf even though it looks like a dog) After you send it to doggy heaven, head around the corner on the right and wait for the Shikigami to float out of view.

Run after him when he does and stealth kill him from behind. Head down the pathway towards the snowman. There is a Shikigami and a wolf roaming around here so be careful. Follow the path to the right of the snowman and watch out for the dog there. Grapple over the bottomless pit around the corner. Take out the Blue Jonin on the far side of the pit and the Red Jonin around the next corner.

Hop down the slope here and sneak along the fence. Be very careful of not getting spotted here. If you do, it is not a fun fight with 2 Shikigami and 2 Jonin. Take out the Shikigami around the corner on the right and then lure out the Jonin around the fence. Climb up the wall, jump out of the trench and enter the building.

Ayame (Hyakubake)

I’m not exactly sure why, but Ayame gave me the most trouble out of any boss in the game so far. She tends to throw wave after wave of super shurikens which actually do a fair bit of damage. Dodge and jump the super shurikens because blocking them does nothing. She is also quick as a bunny in her attacks which doesn’t help much. Block her hits and counter them with your own. Having a health potion or two wouldn’t hurt in this fight.

Mission Ten: Buddha Temple

Infiltrate the Buddha Temple

To start this mission, you are already at the temple with only one guard walking back and forth in front. Stealth kill him and grapple up to the top of the red pillars and enter the crawlspace. Crawl through to the other side and jump over the gap to the platform on the far right. Hop up on the ledge and toss in some rice for the basket head monk walking back and forth. Kill him and head up the stairs and up the ramp.

Toss some rice into the room here and take out the Kenpo monk. Drop down into the next room and hide behind the wall until the monk turns around. Sneak up, kill him and continue on to the outside area. Jump across to the platform and look down. Wait until the Kenpo Bouzu monk walks back around the corner to jump down. Jump down and immediately hide behind a pillar on the right side. Grapple up to the wooden beam over head and grapple up again to the planks of wood. Stealth kill the monk on watch up here. Drop down between the two wooden beams and hide behind a pillar until the monk here turns around. Help him get a good night’s rest and enter the little room he was guarding.

Grapple up and take out the basket head here. Run down the pathway till you come to a large cavernous room with platforms in front of you and a bridge above you. Grapple up to the right and grab onto the bridge. Head left across it and hop over the opening here. Hide behind the wall on your right and toss out some rice for the bald monk that is getting very close to you. Take him out and continue down the passage way he was walking along. Turn the left corners and hop down into a large room. Go around the corner on the right and grapple up to the opening high above you.

Jump on top of the boards here that are blocking the opening and turn and drop down onto a platform below you. Make sure you don’t fall to far outwards and miss the platform below. Run along the passage and crawl through the small space to enter a room with wooden beams. Grapple up from beam to beam to a little room at the top that has some barrels in it. Grapple up out of there to get outside. Hide behind a lamp while the monk walks back and forth. Sneak up on him for the stealth kill and quickly jump back to hiding before the bear at the far end sees you. There is a small room up on the right, above where you entered this area, but it seems to go nowhere. There is a small trap door on the floor that won’t open and nothing else in the room.

Make your way to the end of the area where the bear is walking around and walk down the alleyway on the right avoiding the hole in the ground and continue around the corner into the temple or try and see if you can get a stealth kill on the bear. Grapple up above the pots and look down the other side. Take out the monk down below to start the cut scene and boss fights.

Kagura and Ganda

Unlike when you fought Kagura and her wolf as Ayame, this time around you will want to focus on Kagura and ignore Ganda. He gets his health restored way to fast while fighting him to bother trying to take him out. If you can get one good combo in on Kagura, that should take care of her.

Tatsumaru

Next up, you need to take out Tatsumaru. When fighting him be sure to stay out of the way of his flying feet of fury. He has a charge move that ends in him grabbing you and punching you spastically. Avoid his charge at all costs and attack him when he misses with it.
